Frequently Asked Questions

GPA in Nepal is calculated by multiplying each subject's credit hours by the grade point, summing them up, and dividing by total credit hours. The formula is: GPA = Σ(credit × gradePoint) / Σ(credits). Different universities (TU, KU, PU) use slightly different grade scales.
For a 4.0 GPA scale (NEB, TU): Percentage ≈ GPA × 25. For example, GPA 3.6 = ~90%. KU uses a similar scale. Note: this is an approximation — different institutions may have their own conversion tables.
For USA/UK/Australia: Most universities require a minimum GPA of 3.0 (75%) for Master's programs. Top universities prefer 3.5+ (87%+). For scholarships like Fulbright or Chevening, a strong GPA (3.5+) significantly improves your chances.
NEB (National Examination Board) calculates GPA on a 4.0 scale for +2 (Grade 11-12). Grades range from A+ (4.0) to E (0.8). The GPA shown on your NEB transcript is the average across all subjects. Minimum passing grade is D (1.2).
Both use a 4.0 scale, but TU (Tribhuvan University) typically uses letter grades A (4.0) to F (0), while KU (Kathmandu University) uses A (4.0) to F (0) with slight differences in cutoff percentages. KU is generally considered slightly stricter in grading.
